What is your legacy?
Ancestral legacies can feel tricky, especially when you are painfully aware of patterns that you'd rather just be done with. This time of year is rich for such sacred, tender work.

Ancestral legacies show up in every facet of our lives.
From addiction to trauma to unhealthy relational patterns to the internalized oppression of feminine values, voices, and bodies, we know the impact of our ancestral legacies intimately. These challenging patterns often overshadow the gifts and blessings of our lineage.
No wonder we love the narrative of rugged individualism.
I certainly wanted nothing more than to divorce myself from my dysfunctional ancestral legacy - to declare myself a free agent. One of the most disappointing (but ultimately liberating) truths that I had to come to terms with is that we are part of the greater whole, born of both the light and the darkness of our ancestors, to play out our bit of timeline in the story of humanity.
The legacy of your ancestors is also yours.
An energy healer once told me that we cannot transmute what is not ours to carry (which is true) - but, I wanted to believe that was true of every dysfunctional, challenging bit of my family legacy. That hasn’t been my experience.
However, the legacy patterns we are asked to carry, and the burdens we are asked to negotiate, come with the built in skills, strength, heart, and insight to navigate and transform what we are gifted by legacy. Every challenging pattern is an invitation to break old cycles and create new possibilities.
The value of healing is immeasurable.
I have come to believe that the good work we do to heal ourselves is celebrated by our ancestors. Not only does our healing work heal the past, but it positively impacts the people around us who experience our growing reclaimation of wholeness. This good work of healing also pours into the future through our descendants, forming and shaping the legacy that we leave for future generations (whether we have children of our own or not).
Let the legacy you leave be a gift.
Like your ancestors, you will leave a legacy born of both shadow and light. As you say yes to unraveling and releasing the patterns that do not serve, you heal your lineage and you create a foundation of wholeness for those that come after you.
I’m listening, so tell me everything.
What do you wish your legacy to be?
What is asking to be tended and healed for you to make your legacy a reality?
